As the 2025/26 WAISAL (West African International Schools Association League) football tournaments approach once more, excitement fills the air at ICSA. Training sessions are longer and more intense, and coaches are pushing the absolutely best out of their players now more than ever. One question remains in every student’s mind: Can ICSA claim victory once more this year?
Preparation And Determination
According to Athletics Director Mrs. Gimena, this year’s preparation has reached new and outstanding levels of focus and commitment. She stated, “We’re preparing a lot better than last year. The training plan is clear, and the level of play and willpower to compete have both significantly risen. “
She also highlighted one of ICSA’s greatest advantages: consistency. Mrs. Gimena added, “Many students stay here for several years, so they grow together as athletes. That bond then helps us compete as one unit.
Rival WAISAL Schools And Rising Pressure
Every WAISAL season brings fierce competition and rivalries, and this year’s contenders for football are stronger than ever. ICSA football captain Israel Nguessan, pointed out ISD (International School of Dakar) as a key rival. He said, “They won 2 years ago before us, also winning back to back, so they are definitely the team to beat as they are more determined now than ever to come out victorious again. The team has been training intensely and I believe we can finish in the top 2 if we stay focused.”
When asked about the team’s collaboration and how confident they are of winning once more, the captain was cautiously optimistic. He said,
“Football is a game of luck – it’s unpredictable. Our football team is filled with great talent, but we still need to build chemistry fast to compete and dominate at the top level.”
Regarding our school’s biggest weapon, the captain believes ICSA’s sense of unity will make the difference. He explained, “There’s a genuine bond between players. We just need to bridge the gap between older and younger students so we can perform as one.”
The Voice Of The Fans
The energy is not limited to the athletes alone. Fans and spectators are equally as passionate and ready to cheer. Aahana, a big supporter of ICSA sports, expressed her confidence, saying, “You can tell how much effort the teams are putting in. I think ICSA will truly surprise people this year. Despite losing key players, we remain optimistic as we know the new additions in the team are a blessing in disguise. Both Lincoln and ISD look strong, but our teams have improved massively.“
For her, like many other fans, WAISAL represents more than competition. According to Aahana, “It’s about pride and community. When WAISAL starts, everyone at school feels connected – it’s one of the few times the entire campus unites behind one goal: winning.”
Although the excitement in the stands is undeniable, the meaning of WAISAL runs even deeper!

While each player and coach prioritizes victory, they all agree that WAISAL’s meaning runs far deeper than medals.
“WAISAL builds character. It’s about travel, teamwork and learning to win and lose with pride. Students create memories and friendships that last far beyond their school years”, said Mrs. Gimena.
Her powerful message has touched every individual in the ICSA community. Success is not only measured in trophies, but in growth, teamwork, and resilience. That perspective defines the Panthers’ identity – a team that may face challenges, but never lacks spirit.
Final Verdict:- The Year Of The Panthers
Looking at the preparation, chemistry, and morale, aside from volleyball, football appears to be ICSA’s strongest sport this year. Although reaching the top will be hard, we know football has potential to surprise if the team clicks early and develops genuine chemistry.
ICSA’s passion and unity push them further than expected. Athletes are training harder, learning from last year’s setbacks, and embracing the collective spirit that makes WAISAL special. This might just be the year the Panthers roar again- not only for victory, but also pride, growth, and the true spirit of competition that truly defines ICSA.
