From crunchy classics to innovative sweets, snacks aren’t just random foods to eat. They make school days better, and many times, go hand in hand with memories. Just in the US alone, there are over 3000 snack food production businesses, but what are our students favorite snacks? A survey was done at ICSA and over 100 people chose their favorite snacks. The results may be surprising to you.

Chocolate Champion

The favorite chocolate snack of ICSA students with just under 20% of the votes is…Snickers. Looks like this nougat chocolate bar, topped with peanuts and chocolate, conquered the taste buds of our crowd, awarding Snickers the top spot on the snack list. This chocolate bar has been around since 1930, when it was first named after a horse. Starting out in Chicago, this first sold for 5 cents (USD). The price has been raised a bit since then.

“The flavor of the chocolate, caramel, nougat and the peanuts is just the best combination of sweet and savory. I would definitely put Snickers in the S tier list of chocolates worldwide.”

– Rayan Sebti, 10th Grade student

First Prize in Fruity Candy

The best-loved fruity candy in school, with over 30% of the votes, is…Haribo. The tiny gummy bears of all shades and colors with its magical gelatin and its delicious fruity flavor made ICSA students fall in love with this German candy. From humble beginnings, this candy started in a small kitchen with basic cooking tools, and was delivered by bicycle. Creator Hans Riegel Sr. started with the hard candy, and then it evolved to the gummies.

“Because they have different flavors, I like their texture. They are just different than other gummies!”

Special Salty Snacks

The chosen salty snack, with about 35% of the votes, is…Takis. The flaming flavor of the spices on the rolled corn tortilla left the students with no other choice but to choose this Mexican snack.  Originating in Mexico in 1999, this snack quickly hit the US in 2004. Its intention was to target Hispanic populations, but is now a fan favorite amongst teens worldwide.

“I love the feeling of spice that creates so much tension that you need a drink next to it, and don’t even get me started on the crispiness.”

– Ganza Nyaruhirira , 10th grade student

Best Loved Beverage

Can you guess what the favorite beverage is here?…It’s brown, fizzy and refreshes you after a hot, sweaty day. It’s the classic…Coca Cola. The sugary soft drink, with the curious unknown formula, is not only the most popular beverage here, because it’s also the world’s best selling soda. It began as medicine, in 1886, and was used to treat nausea, headaches, and heartburn.

ICSA students seem to really to love their snacks and drinks. After these results, make sure to watch out for cavities and get your regular doctor’s check ups!
