Players to Watch: Premier League’s Top 5 Must-See Talents This Season

Top 5 Premier League Players To Look Forward To This Season

The 2024-2025 Premier League season is heating up with the league table starting to take shape. As a football enthusiast, these are my top 5 player picks. They are ready to light up the pitch this season. All football fans of the world… it’s time to get excited!

Nicolas Jackson

Nicolas Jackson is simply the most underrated striker right now. He was Chelsea’s second highest goal-scorer last season. He is already off to a hot start this season with 4 goals and 3 assists in only 7 games.

Jackson’s speed and agility makes him a profound threat on the attacking front. You can see this with his goal against West Ham United in matchday 5. He received the ball a couple yards past the half-way line and glided down the pitch to end the play by megging the keeper and scoring in the 4th minute, leaving the defense absolutely stunned.

He ended that match with 2 goals and an assist. Jackson’s ability to create chances out of nothing is what makes him a special player. He doesn’t have Haaland’s strength or Messi’s skill, but put the ball in his feet and he will use the limited amount of skills to make the most of the opportunity.

Ibrahim Kone, a junior at ICSA, summed it up perfectly by saying “Jackson’s part of the rare breed of strikers who are agile enough to drop deep, link play, have quick feet, good pace, along with a good striker’s instincts.”

His finishing is the only aspect of his game that’s holding him back. As that aspect of his game continues to improve, he is set to become amongst the best strikers in league history.

John Duran

Never heard of the name? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. He has gone from playing for the MLS’s Chicago Fire to scoring in the Champions League for Aston Villa in the short time frame of 2 years.

He signed to Aston Villa in January 2023. But he only recently made his breakthrough in the team by scoring the winning goal for Aston Villa in a Champions League match against German giant Bayern Munchen.

Currently, he has the same amount of goals (4) as Mohamed Salah, Nicolas Jackson, Ollie Watkins and Danny Welbeck just to name a few. At 20 years old, his strength, pace, and elite finishing abilities is what makes him such an elite player.

His ability to take on defenders with ease and create goal scoring opportunities make him enjoyable to watch. He will be a crucial part of Villa’s success this season.

Dejan Kulusevski

The Tottenham player is one of the most lowkey midfielders in the league right now. He is a mixture of immense physical traits and creative excellence.

He is one of those players that take notes of the little details while playing. At 11 total, he currently has the most possessions won in the attacking third. But regular viewers would not be able to pick up these stats while watching him play.

“He possesses a brilliant, almost unmatched vision, and is statistically one of the best creators in the league.”

Ibrahim Kone, 11th Grader

He utilizes his physical profile to be an excellent ball carrier and outmuscle opponents to keep possession on the ball, all while covering brilliant ground on the pitch in the process.

He is off to a rather slow start having just one assist and a goal, but fans should not be surprised when they hear the name Dejan Kulusevski being up there with the top performers at the end of the season.

Erling Haaland

There is no other striker in the league right now that’s like Erling Haaland. He is an absolute goal machine that can’t stop scoring.

He joined Manchester City two seasons ago from Borussia Dortmund. He immediately made his mark by breaking the record for the most goals scored in a Premier League season, at a total of 36.

He followed up that impressive performance by scoring 27 goals the next season. This season he already has 10 goals, including 2 hat-tricks. There is really no stopping this guy.

He is not as creative as the other players on this list, and his only job is to score goals. His speed, size, and technique makes him an incredible goal scorer.

He is 6 ‘4, and he weighs 194 pounds of pure muscle. His physique greatly complements his goal scoring abilities. My prediction is that the Norwegian will net at least 30 goals this season. And even be a top candidate for next year’s Ballon D’or award.

Cole Palmer

Cole Jermaine Palmer is simply the best player in the league right now. The three words to describe him would be: cool, calm and composed.

Since joining Chelsea at the start of last season, he has been electric. Last season, he had 22 goals and 11 assists,  which is the most goal involvements by any player last season. He ended the season with the Young Player of the Season award, and much deserved.

He’s unsurprisingly off to a good start this season having netted 6 goals and dished out 5 assists. He even broke a premier league record during Matchday 6.

Scoring 4 goals in the first half of the match against Brighton was something no other premier league player has done. Ever!

Due to his slender build, one might look at him and might question his athleticism. But, on the field, he makes up for his lack of physicality with his ball handling ability.

“This is a future multiple Ballon D’or winner.”

Ibrahim Kone, 11th Grader

He recently won the Player of the Month award for September. Being only 22 years old, Palmer is already at the peak of his career. Chelsea fans should expect  to win a bunch of silverware this season if Palmer continues with his peak form.
