Blossoming Poets: Poetry Contest Winners- Grades 2-9

My Cat Arin

By: Giorgia Bruni, 2nd Grade

My cat Arin lives in my house,

He is scared of water and mouse.

Everyday we play and chat,

I love spending time with my fluffy cat.

He always eats meat and fish,

But he goes crazy for olive and milk.

In the darkest hour of the night,

His eyes are a bright light.

He values more than my favorite toy,

Because in my family he brings joy.

Summer Days

By: Lillian Breece, 2nd Grade

I like summer,

I like summer

Summer is fun!

Riding my bike,

Exploring in the forest,

And catching fish in the creek,

All day long.

I see groundhog,

I see squirrels,

I see birds,

I see deer.

But my most favorite part of summer,

Is visiting the dog next door.

New Class in School

By: Ousmane Ba, 4th Grade

We need a new class in school,

Led by the OBJM crew (Ousmane, Ben, Joseph, and Moctar).

In Fortnite class you learn

How to communicate, collaborate, and compete,

as you grind levels.

We will practice paying attention.

The class will be like a dream.

Goodbye Math, and

Good Morning Fortnite!

Splashing into a minute.

By: Kikyo Bamba, Grade 7

One minute is still

But next splashes everywhere

Once more, pure silence

Pearl

By: Julia Vo, Grade 9

I am nothing

For when the nightingales sing

And the church bells ring

l am nothing

For we are unlike in the fairness of our day

And yet that evening, on clay we equally lay

l am nothing

For when I breathe, the world is straight ahead

But for when I rest, the sky I look at instead

I am nothing

For when I’m gone I wish to be forgotten

For when I cease and my body is rotten

l am nothing

For there is ego in memory

My only hope is my words remain a remedy

l am nothing

And Although today I’m just a girl

Tomorrow I’m all but a pearl

Eyes of Jade

By: Kristelle Bila, 9th Grade

In eyes of jade, a story weaves,

Imprinted upon the worn out leaves.

Murmurs of a thousand whispers

With the passage of a thousand winters.

Underneath the full moon’s silver shadows

Reflections of a kite over a meadow.

That soars over the vast mountains and rivers.

A motionless unit of soul, boundless.

Painted with colors of twilight hues

A tale unfolds in an iridescent refuge.

Where wisdom dwells and secrets keep

The darkest of the night, where nightmares sleep.

With a single gaze, a page turned

Telling a tale that leaves us burned.

Mixed with blackest ink

Eyes of Jade, the strongest link
