Timeless Dedication: A Spotlight to Our School’s Oldest Serving Staff

Ms. Amani Boua, has witnessed countless changes and developments in ICSA over the years. Her career at ICSA does not reflect only on her love for the job, nor her commitment, but also ICSA’s journey. As our school’s longest serving staff member, her 33 years of service are appreciated, and we should give her the spotlight and love she deserves.

She first joined ICSA in September of 1991, so at the time, the staff number and campus was much smaller. Because of this, everybody knew each other well.

In the early days of ICSA, her initial role was more student centered. She was a lower school secretary, who worked under the leadership of Mr. Rob Walbridge, the former Lower School Principal. She recalls a more traditional office environment with limited technology. They used typewriters, fax machines, clunky Apple computers with floppy disks.

“I had an old desk and chair that tore my dress one morning, so they had to find me a new one!” The staff was adapting to items that lacked sophistication and quality.

More than a Workplace, It’s a Family

Her early years at ICSA were filled with joy, laughter, and a sense of family amongst the staff.

The camaraderie at ICSA became part of her most cherished memories. She recalls a Halloween prank in which the school’s director at the time, Larry Jones, put on a scary mask, and stared at her through the window.

Everybody cherishes and respects Ms. Amani. To her co-workers, it feels more like a family than a workplace.

Studies have shown that a positive workplace creates happy, healthy, efficient staff. It also shows that staff are less likely to leave. This is true for Ms. Amani and is a huge part of why she enjoyed coming to work everyday.

“The most rewarding part of this school is you feel like you are in a big family,  like we are all connected in a way.” – MS. Amani

She truly loves her colleagues. To her, they are friends that come in each day sharing stories. They hug her, laugh with her, and transfer daily love.

Commitment to a Cause

When asked why she is so committed to our school, Ms. Amani refers to the warmth and appreciation shown to her from day one.

The late Dr. Barbara Ainsworth, the Upper School principal who hired her, came to her office the last day she was at ICSA. She told her: “Anne-Marie, we come and go, but remember that ICSA needs you to continue the work and keep the boat.”  She has then made a vow to keep on working for ICSA, which now adds up to an impressive 33 years.

Her years of service are special, since the average tenue in 2024 of those in education are around 5.3 percent.

She decided to continue working at ICSA until retirement, showcasing her loyalty to the school.

It’s Time for a Thank You

Ms. Amani has done incredible things for our school community. She’s a committed and strong woman, and has endured so much in her career; yet, so few students are aware.

She claims its because her position is not as student centered now, but more with staff.

Everyone should at least know her, as well as thank her for her service. Her office is near the business office: if you’re reading this message, take some time out of your day to thank her.
